City Walk Memorial Park and Beer Can House, 6.4 miles

Details
The walk today takes us around Memorial Park, founded in 1924 and built on the site of a training camp for the US Army during WWI. We will follow the main loop and also the bayou-side trails created originally by the biking community. Along the way we will check on the progress on the Memorial Drive land bridge prairie restoration effort. Then we cut through to the Rice Military neighborhood to visit the eccentric Beer Can House, then looping back through the narrow (formerly one-way) streets to the end of our walk.
Parking: Several of the lots are not free but there is much free parking along the loop. [https://www.memorialparkconservancy.org/visit/map-directions/parking/ ](https://www.memorialparkconservancy.org/visit/map-directions/parking/)Come early and give yourself time to park.
Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. The heat in Texas is always a concern so let someone know if you are having a hard time. Light-colored and loose fitting clothing are recommended.
