City Walk Memorial Park and Houston Arboretum, 7.0 miles
Details
Our walk today takes us through Memorial Park, built on the site of Camp Logan, a training camp for the US Army during WWI, with a turn through the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. A busy park, we can expect to see dozens of dogs and potentially hundreds of joggers. With the Memorial Drive land bridge/tunnel project now completed we can easily cross Memorial Drive and see the native prairie plants and how well they are coming along. We finish with a walk through the Eastern Glades part of the park.
Parking: Several of the lots are not free but there is much free parking along the loop. Memorial Park parking Come early and give yourself time to park.
Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. The heat in Texas is always a concern so let someone know if you are having a hard time. Light-colored and loose fitting clothing are recommended.
