City Walk Houston Time and Space, Houston Edition, 6.5 miles
Details
Our late spring walk is the first of the NASA series and takes us around many of reminders of the effects of the sciences on this city. Beginning with a look at the ancient nickel-iron meteorite in the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the walk allows us to check and re-check our watches at convenient sundials, see a telescope on the roof, and go on to compare the view with the Turrell Skyspace. Then around Rice Stadium where Kennedy announced the Moon shot in 1962, and past the award-winning Space Physics Building (Very Modern....) Finally we will climb to the roof of Glassell School for the view, not because it is easy, but because it is hard. After the walk we will have a cool down at Bodega's which is relatively nearby.
"...We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept..." John Kennedy, Rice Stadium 1962
Wear light colored, loose fitting clothing, comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. The heat in Texas is always a concern so let someone know if you are having a hard time.
