Keep your fingers crossed!!!! Today's downtown walk takes us by many of the vulnerabilities of our Gulf Coastal community during hurricane season. Bayous tasked with storm drainage, streets, underpasses, bridges, power lines, and all the businesses knitted together to make the whole thing work are all stressed when we have one of those Gulf-spanning storms that make the top story of the national news. We will follow the Buffalo Bayou walking trail into downtown, go by the historic City of Houston Disaster Control Center at Rusk and Bagby, and, to their great chagrin, CenterPoint Energy's downtown headquarters. In the process we will not cross downed power lines, drive through deep water, or cut our way through fallen trees. Hopefully there will be no need to.

The weather is warming up, loose light-colored clothing is recommended for this hike.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. The heat in Texas is always a concern so let someone know if you are having a hard time. For more information about hiking check out this very useful hiking website: https://www.hatsandmore.org/

Our organizers are not guides nor do we have any special training. We are here to come up with hiking ideas and get the hike started. Take the same precautions you would if hiking alone, including the fitness needed to make long hikes. Then enjoy the hike among friends.
