Civic Tech Toronto hacknight #82 with UofT Innovation Hub

Details

Presenters: Ali Rodney, Julia Smeed and Tamsyn Riddle - University of Toronto Innovation Hub (http://blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca/innovationhub/)

The Innovation Hub is a project at the University of Toronto that uses design-thinking methodology as a student-centered approach to improving the student experience. Our work is anchored by innovative and collaborative work teams made up of students, faculty and staff from a variety of disciplines. Through interviews, conversations and observations, we gathered insights from students in order to understand student-life from their perspectives. These insights inspired the development of twenty-five project ideas designed to meet student needs. In this presentation we will describe what our work looked like, discuss challenges that arose, and share our insights about using a design-thinking approach to creating solutions for unmet needs.

Our weekly civic tech hacknights bring together designers, coders, urban planners, government staff, mappers, policy-makers, students, communications strategists, and all other Torontonians who share an interest in making Toronto more responsive, prosperous, sustainable and equitable, through design, tech, and data. (Coders are welcome, but you don’t have to be a coder to contribute!) Come and be part of it!

Agenda:

6:30-7: Welcome and intros
7-7:30: Presentation and Q&A/discussion
7:30-9: Breakout groups (make something!)
