Topic: Running hybrid events on a shoestring

For the past two months, Civic Tech Toronto has shifted our weekly online hacknight events from virtual (Zoom) to hybrid (Zoom + in-person). We've learned a lot along the way, and will share how and why we do it.

Speakers: Gabe Sawhney and Sam McGarva, Civic Tech Toronto

Join us in person:

  • We'll be meeting at City Hall (100 Queen St W). Room info will be shared when you RSVP.
  • Security screening is in place at City Hall. Bags are searched, and you need to go through a metal detector.
  • Our in-person venue is limited to 25 people and we encourage all attendees to wear masks.

Agenda:

  • 7:00-7:20 = Welcome and Introductions
  • 7:20-7:50 = Presentation and Q&A/discussion
  • 7:50-9:00 = Breakout groups

Accessibility

  • We're exploring ways to make our online hacknights more accessible. At the moment we provide video and audio of the presentation through Zoom and automated closed captioning.

About Us:

  • Our weekly civic tech hacknights bring together Torontonians (designers, coders, urban planners, government staff, mappers, policy-makers, students, communications strategists, community organizers, and more) who share an interest in making Toronto more responsive, prosperous, sustainable, and equitable through design, tech, and data. Come and be part of it!
