What we’re about

This is the Meetup group for Rain Tree - The NM Center for Meditative Inquiry and Retreat.

We currently offer a bi-weekly Thursday evening sitting, followed by a chance for dialogue/sharing, all via Zoom. This takes place on the first, third, and fifth Thursdays of the month.

We also will have an annual 7 day retreat in East Mountains.

Rain Tree is not affiliated with any particular meditation tradition. It is based on simple, direct looking, in the style of teachers like Toni Packer, Krishnamurti, Eckhart Tolle, Adyashanti, and others.

People from any tradition are welcome. Traditional teachings can be very rich if we have a chance to explore them carefully.

We strongly encourage new members to start with a 6 session introductory period, in which you meet one-on-one with Jay about every other week over a three month period. This can be by phone, Zoom, or in person.

Our work isn't based on specific practices but rather on direct inquiry, which is at the heart of meditative practices. Our purpose is to discover - both together and in individual listening - how the Wholeness of life can begin to function in us and what it is that prevents that.

We offer a suggested structure for beginning to unfold and heal the things in us that block the awakening of simplicity, clarity, compassion, and intelligence. We offer a semi-formal program based on regular opportunities to meet with the director of the group (Jay) one-on-one, as well as to attend extended sittings and group sittings with dialogue.

Explore more deeply what meditative work is and how it sheds light on the concerns of our lives, not theoretically, but from a quiet listening that embraces the whole human condition.

For People from any meditation traditions (Tibetan, Zen, Vipassana, Hindu, Western) or no tradition at all, as well as for people interested in teachers such as Eckhart Tolle, Pema Chodron, Toni Packer, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Krishnamurti.

Meditative work is not theoretical, not goal oriented. It is the direct entering into a simple, compassionate, open awareness that allows the myriad fears, clingings and confusions of the mind to be revealed in a new way and at the same time brings us intimately, undividedly and lovingly in touch with the wide universe in all its profound stillness.

Facilitated by Jay Cutts. Jay has attended retreats with Toni Packer and others for over 50 years. He meets from time to time with people from varying backgrounds to clarify meditative work together.
