About us

Authenticity Matters is a social and experiential group for people who want to connect more deeply — with themselves and with others.

In everyday life, it’s easy to stay on the surface: polite conversation, familiar roles, carefully managed impressions. This group creates space to explore what happens when we slow down, become more present, and allow ourselves to be genuinely seen.

Meetups may include guided activities such as meaningful conversation prompts, partnered listening, eye gazing, movement and dance, mindfulness, playful connection exercises, and opportunities to explore vulnerability, boundaries and authentic self-expression.

Some activities may involve optional physical contact, such as holding hands. Everything is invitational. You are always free to participate in a way that feels right for you, modify an exercise, or simply observe. Saying “no” or setting a boundary is just as welcome as saying “yes.”

You don't need to be especially confident, outgoing or good at talking about your feelings. Curiosity is enough.

This group is for people interested in:

Genuine human connection
Becoming more comfortable with vulnerability
Developing greater self-awareness
Practising authentic communication
Exploring boundaries and consent
Moving beyond small talk
Being more present with others
Having fun and meeting people in a different way

The aim isn't to force intimacy or manufacture emotional experiences. It's to create the conditions where real connection can emerge naturally — sometimes playful, sometimes awkward, sometimes surprisingly meaningful.

Come as you are.

# Real Connection

When was the last time you felt genuinely connected to someone — not through small talk, roles or expectations, but through simple, honest presence?
Real Connection is an experiential evening designed to help people slow down, connect more authentically, and explore what happens when we allow ourselves to be seen and truly notice another person.
The evening will include a mixture of conversation, movement, mindfulness and partnered activities. Some exercises may feel playful, some reflective, and others may invite a little more vulnerability.
You don't need to be especially confident, outgoing or experienced with workshops. You don't need to arrive with a partner either. Just bring some curiosity and a willingness to meet other people in a slightly different way.

## What we'll explore

Activities may include:

  • Meaningful conversation prompts that go beyond small talk
  • Partnered listening and sharing
  • Movement and gentle dance-based icebreakers
  • Mirroring and non-verbal communication
  • Eye-gazing and presence exercises
  • Exploring personal boundaries and authentic yes/no
  • Optional appropriate touch, such as holding hands during a partnered exercise
  • Opportunities to reflect on what comes up when we give and receive attention

There will also be time to talk about your experience and share what you notice — without pressure to disclose anything you would rather keep private.

## The agenda

Arrival and settling in — 15 minutes
Meet some of the other participants, get comfortable and settle into the space.
Welcome and group agreements — 10 minutes
We'll introduce the evening and establish some simple agreements around respect, confidentiality, consent and personal choice.
Movement and icebreaker — 15 minutes
A light movement-based activity to help us relax, become more present and get out of our heads.
Beyond small talk — 20 minutes
Partnered conversations using carefully chosen questions that encourage curiosity, openness and genuine connection.
Presence and attunement — 20 minutes
Exercises exploring listening, mirroring, body language and what happens when we give another person our full attention.
Real Connection — 25 minutes
A gradually facilitated exploration of eye contact, presence and vulnerability, with optional touch for those who would like to explore it.
Reflection and closing — 15 minutes
An opportunity to notice what the experience was like for you, share reflections if you wish, and close the evening together.
Total event time: approximately 2 hours.

## What to bring

Please bring:

  • Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily
  • A water bottle
  • An open mind and some curiosity

You may also like to bring a notebook if you enjoy writing down thoughts or reflections.
There is no need to bring a partner. The activities are designed for people attending individually as well as those who come with someone they know.

## Choice, boundaries and consent

Everything during Real Connection is invitational.
You are always free to participate, modify an activity, say no, take a break or simply observe.
Some exercises may involve sustained eye contact, personal sharing or optional physical touch. Consent will always be emphasised, and you can change your mind at any point.
Authenticity isn't about pushing yourself past your boundaries. Sometimes the most authentic thing you can do is say yes. Sometimes it's saying no.
Both are welcome.

## Location

The event will be held in Melbourne's inner north.
The exact venue and arrival details will be provided to registered participants closer to the event date.

***

Real Connection isn't about forcing intimacy or trying to have a profound experience.
It's an opportunity to slow down, put away some of the usual social scripts, meet other people with curiosity, and discover what happens when we're a little more present with one another.
Come as you are.
