LoRa & Meshtastic Meetup
Details
Join local makers, radio tinkerers, and curious first-timers for an evening of hands-on LoRa and Meshtastic experimentation at Clear Creek Makerspace in Wheat Ridge.
## Event overview
- Learn what LoRa is, why it works so well for long‑range, low‑power messaging, and how Meshtastic turns cheap radios into a resilient off‑grid mesh network.
- See live Meshtastic nodes in action passing text messages and location data without cell service, Wi‑Fi, or internet.
- Connect with local makers in a fully equipped 7,000+ sq ft community workshop designed for building, prototyping, and experimenting.
## Who should attend
- Newcomers who have never touched a radio but want a friendly intro to off‑grid communication and basic hardware.
- Developers, RF nerds, preppers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want to compare hardware, firmware builds, antennas, and real‑world range results.
- Makers interested in integrating Meshtastic into projects like sensor networks, trail beacons, event comms, or custom handheld devices.
## What we’ll do
- Short walkthrough: We will go over LoRa (long‑range, low‑power radio modulation used for IoT sensors and devices) and Meshtastic and MeshCore (decentralized, wireless mesh networking protocol networks built around LoRaWAN for a long‑range, off‑grid text and data communication network without needing cellular or data service).
- Show‑and‑tell: bring your nodes, antennas, 3D‑printed cases, or in‑progress builds for a casual round‑table demo.
- Hands‑on time: pair up to flash firmware, join a local mesh, tweak settings, and test message hops around the makerspace and nearby Clear Creek area (time permitting).
## What to bring
- Optional: your Meshtastic‑compatible radios, laptop, phone, power banks, and any cases or antennas you want to test.
- If you are brand new, just bring your curiosity—there will be plenty to see, touch, and learn, plus people happy to help you get started.
## Location details
- Hosted at Clear Creek Makerspace, a community workshop powered by Localworks at 9110 W 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO.
- The space offers workbenches, tools, and collaborative areas ideal for small electronics, antenna tweaks, and live range testing discussions.
