WTO/99 (2025) dinner afterwards at Sittoo's at Cinemathque
Details
An immersive archival documentary that depicts the four-day clash between the then-emerging World Trade Organization (WTO) and the 40,000+ people who took to the streets of Seattle in 1999 to protest the WTO Conference and the WTO’s impact on human rights, labor, and the future effects of continued globalization. This happen over 25 years ago, but I remember these events that took place well. I didn't dig the violence that happen in Seattle, but that is what hit the front page of the Los Angeles Times and the nightly world news during this period. This protest did make people aware that there were honest problems with the environment, wages in the USA, world poverty, and the growing world divided. In 2026, these problems have not been resolved and might be even worse than 1999. Please join the group for this film about the WTO protest in Seattle that still matters today. Meet just before you enter the film and at the same location. Walk to Sittoo's for dinner after the film.
