It’s 1990. Iraq has invaded Kuwait and American military action is widely anticipated. Despite her best efforts to avoid the “honor”, nine-year-old Lamia is chosen to represent her school by baking a cake as part of the compulsory national celebration of President Saddam Hussein’s birthday. So she goes in search of the necessary ingredients amid stringent international economic sanctions. Cast almost entirely with first-time local actors, the film portrays both the omnipresent terror of Saddam’s dictatorship and the timeless way of life of Iraq’s southern marshes, unchanged for over 5,000 years.

You can park for free in the lots with "Cinematheque" signs on E 117th Street (accessible only from Euclid). From the parking lots, take a few steps south to Mayfield Road, then turn left and walk a short distance up the hill. Home Bistro is on the right just past Random Road, across from the Church.
