In the Brazil of the not-too-distant future, the elderly are required make to make room for younger citizens by relocating to distant colonies from which no one ever returns. At 77, Tereza is surprised to learn that the government has lowered the compulsory retirement age, so that she herself will be forced to resettle within a matter of days. But instead, to pursue a lifelong dream, she makes her escapes by boat down the long Amazon river. Winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
