In this classic film noir, the middle-aged proprietor of a road-side diner (Cecil Kellaway) hires a drifter (John Garfield) to help out around the restaurant. But the new assistant quickly begins a torrid affair with his boss’ beautiful young wife (Lana Turner), and the two conspire to murder the husband and seize his assets.
