CCL Canberra August: Coping With Crisis with Rod Taylor

Details
Join us this month to hear from local Canberra science broadcaster Rod Taylor. The theme will Coping with Crisis: what I learned from ten Australians. First it was drought, then fire, then plague. Any one of these on its own is a disaster but together, they mean Australia has been triple punched. The tragedy is, this is an entirely solvable situation. Instead of arguing about what to do, we remain wedged by denial and vested interests.
In the face of crisis it's hard to remain cheerful. So what do we do? In writing Ten Journeys on a Fragile Planet, Rod set out to learn how other Australians have made this their mission. They tell inspiring, sometimes harrowing stories of how they maintain some sort of hope. Each in their own way, is a hero.
In this talk, Rod will talk highlights followed by observations on what makes these people special.
For fifteen years, Rod has worked as a columnist for Fairfax (now ACM), and as a science broadcaster in Canberra with occasional gigs on the ABC.
Following Rod's talk, the Canberra CCL chapter will be discussing upcoming lobbying and meeting with local Canberra politicians in the lead up to the local elections.
