Climbing In Korea

Dear CIkers!

On Saturday February 14th, we will go on a difficult but short and exciting hike at Buramsan. We will head to the top, hitting a few large, steep slabs of rock along the way up and down along on the easier path. Then we will head toward Sanggye or Danggogae on line 4. The hike takes about 4-5 hours depending on our pace with moderate difficulty. The hike will cover some steep and rocky terrain. There are sections involving stairs and metal handrails, so you must be careful and know your ability. It is important to wear footwear appropriate for hiking since the trail has some rocky areas. It should be a fantastic day of hiking so don`t miss this great opportunity!

Where to Meet : Taereung Station on lines 7 & 6 (stop #717 or #645), exit #7 outside ( We will take a city bus to the trail head)

Date and Time : February 14th, Saturday at 11:00am

What to bring : Crampons (you need crampons to be able to safely hike through the snow and ice on the mountain), Appropriate footwear for hiking (we recommend sturdy hiking shoes or boots-we do not recommend sneakers), Clothing appropriate for the weather (it's cold on the mountain-dress warmly), Snacks/lunch, Plenty of water and etc.

Hello CIKers!
We will challenge ourselves with a 8 hour hike along the Hanyangdoseong (Seoul City Wall)! During our hike, we will see at least four of the fortress gates, hike up 4 peaks, and enjoy the views of downtown Seoul! Did you know that Hanyangdoseong was built, rebuilt, repaired and continuously maintained for more than half a millennium! You can see different construction materials used in each layer of the wall. These construction materials represent different periods of Koreas history. The Seoul Wall has been beautifully preserved and blends harmoniously with the terrain, making it an integral part Seoul!

[Hiking Route]
Sungnyemun(Namdaemun) Gate- Donuimun Gate - Inwangsan Summit - Changuimun Gate -Baekagmaru(Bugaksan) Summit - Sukjeongmun Gate - Hyehwamun Gate - Naksan Summit - Heunginjimun(Dongdaemun) Gate - Gwanghuimun Gate- Mongmyeoksan(Namsan) Summit- Sungnyemun Gate(18.6km/8hrs)

This hike will take roughly around 8 hours, depending on the speed and ability level of our group. The trail is classified as moderately difficult-are you up to the challenge!

Difficulty : moderate to advanced

Altitude : 50~342m

Distance : about 18.6 km

Estimated trip time: 8 hours(including lunch time)
