DETAILS:

Talk 1

Title: Getting to Scale: Kubernetes Deployment Patterns for Networking and Network Security

Speaker: Karthik Prabhakar, Director of Solution Architecture at Tigera

Abstract: Every major operator of Kubernetes typically progresses through various stages of maturity as their clusters start small and grow into critical business infrastructure. We'll share the lessons learned from collaboration with numerous cluster and cloud platform operators
as they've evolved through their respective journeys, with a particular focus on network (including service mesh) connectivity and security designs, to benefit those earlier in the journey. We'll also highlight
considerations for scale both for cluster deployment as well as day-2 operations.

Bio: Karthik Prabhakar is the Director of Solution Architecture at Tigera, where he helps customers with secure application connectivity designs leveraging various open source projects that Tigera maintains or is involved with (such as Project Calico, Flannel, CNI, Istio, etc.). Karthik has assisted in the architecture of numerous containerized and cloud infrastructure deployments at scale.

Talk 2

A Kubernetes Pod's Life: From Birth To Death

Speaker: Gunjan Patel, Cloud Architect at Palo Alto Networks

Abstract: In this lightning talk, we will see (yes, actually see, with animation) how a pod's life begins from a kubectl command to the pod object being stored and ultimately scheduled on a node and networked using CNI. This is to better understand how many pieces have to come together to start a simple pod in kubernetes.
At the end of this talk, you will walk away with:

  • Understanding of what components are involved to get a pod running
  • A visual mental model of kubernetes pod scheduling flow

Bio: Gunjan Patel is a Cloud ☁️ Architect in the Developer Relations team at Palo Alto Networks. Prior to that Gunjan has worked as a developer at Tigera, working on container networking and security projects such as Project Calico 🐱, flannel, CNI. Prior to Tigera, he has worked at Ciena, and Cisco on container orchestration, SDN, and virtualization technologies. Gunjan is part of the core team at GoBridge - an organization that helps underrepresented groups in the Go community. He is also the organizer of the Go Remote Meetup group. Gunjan also loves carrots and explaining technical concepts using emojis. 😀

Talk 3

Title: Securing the Future with K8s, Istio, and gRPC in Production

Speakers: Sagar Loke (Engineering Manager) and Animesh Chaturvedi (Sr. Architect) at Palo Alto Networks

Abstract: We will talk about our experience of developing the next generation security data lake platform using Kubernetes, Istio, and gRPC.
