Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the cyber threat landscape. While AI offers powerful tools for defense, it is increasingly being weaponized by malicious actors to conduct sophisticated cyberattacks. This presentation explores how AI is leveraged to automate and enhance attack techniques, including phishing, malware development, vulnerability discovery, and deepfake-based social engineering. It also examines the implications of AI-driven threats for cybersecurity strategies, highlighting the urgent need for adaptive defenses and ethical considerations. By understanding the dual-use nature of AI it helps to better prepare for the evolving risks and challenges due to AI.

The current threat landscape
The cybersecurity threat landscape is undergoing rapid and complex changes, driven by evolving actors, shifting motives, and increasingly sophisticated methods. This presentation provides an overview of the current state of cyber threats, highlighting the diversification of threat actors—from state-sponsored groups to cybercriminals and hacktivists—and their changing objectives, including espionage, financial gain, disruption, and influence operations. It explores how attack techniques have advanced, with growing use of automation, AI, and supply chain exploitation, while vulnerabilities continue to emerge across digital infrastructure, cloud environments, and connected devices. Giving an overview of these dynamics the presentation helps understand what are needed in terms of cyberdefence.
