Agents as Products (Tom Robbins, heytavi.com)
Building better harnesses can help you make the most of LLMs, but many of the things that make agents truly useful - reliability, intuitive interfaces, integration into third party systems, and solid data primitives - draw on many of the same things it takes to build great SaaS products.
These are the things I've learned building HeyTavi, an agent that lives in Slack built for recruiters and hiring managers. We mix traditional microservice architecture with a new idea inspired by OpenClaw and cloud coding agents: providing each customer with an always-on VM with persistent storage. This blurs the lines between being ""frontend"" or ""backend"". We propose the name ""nanoservice"" - meaning a service that runs 24/7 and serves a single customer, and over which the customer must be assumed to have full control.Tom has been writing software for nearly 2 decades. Ex-Citymapper, with a stint in life sciences writing AI software for most of the major global pharma companies. Now he's building HeyTavi, an AI coworker for hiring managers and recruiters that lives in Slack. He can be found on X at @RobbinsTom4867
Scaling Btrfs in an enterprise (Motiejus Jakštys, Palo Alto Networks / Chronosphere)
Btrfs was merged into the Linux kernel in 2009, arriving with bold promises --- and, let's be honest, a reputation for instability. I first tried it on my laptop in 2011. It wiped my data. Twice. On the bright side, it taught me the value of backups.
Fast forward to 2025: btrfs is no longer the experimental filesystem of the past. It's stable, mature, feature-rich, and fully part of the Linux kernel. But old reputations die hard.
I'll share the decision-making process, key performance and reliability insights, and the quirks you only discover when running btrfs at scale, and how we adopted it for petabytes of customer data.Motiejus Jakštys works in the database team at Palo Alto Networks / Chronosphere. He is also a cartographer, creating maps for no particular reason. Maybe it has something to do with him liking long hikes, but he's not sure.
He is running a beefy server in a closet at home, because he likes talking about servers with his kids.
You can find out a bit more about him on his personal website at https://m.jakstys.ltCheck out https://www.oicheryl.com/cloudnativelondon if you're interested in speaking or sponsoring.
