About the open air museum
Chiltern Open Air Museum in Buckinghamshire was founded by volunteers in 1976, and opened to the public in 1981. The Museum is a charity that rescues threatened historic buildings, which would otherwise be demolished, and rebuilds and preserves them in a traditional Chilterns landscape. The Museum has 37 rescued historic buildings on display that were the workplaces or homes of ordinary people. Every building on site was once somewhere else and either lived in or used by our Chilterns ancestors.
Also on the day we will be there, there are having a craft weekend, where we can witness traditional crafts in action. The site will be showcasing the work of traditional craftspeople including natural dyeing, flint knapping, felting, lacemaking and spinning. There’ll also be live folk music throughout the weekend, adding to the atmosphere of the event.

THE TRIP IS NOW FULL, IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND, ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST AND I WILL CONTACT YOU IF A PLACE BECOMES AVAILABLE.
Come along on Saturday 9th August for a day trip along the Suffolk coast!
About the day
The Suffolk coast stretches for 50 miles through heritage coastline and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is situated just two hours from London. We will visit a traditional seaside towns, with stunning views along the coast and pretty fishing villages. All three locations are very different from each other. We will be visiting:
Southwold
Southwold is a charming north Suffolk seaside town. Almost an island, being bounded by the North Sea to the East, by the River Blyth and Southwold harbour to the South–West and by Buss Creek to the North, there is just the one road in to and out of Southwold. Its a quintessentially English resort town with sandy beaches, a working lighthouse, multi-coloured beach huts and a pier.Thorpeness
The small village of Thorpeness was purchased in 1910 by a local businessman (Stuart Ogilvie) with the aim to transform it into a private fantasy holiday village. Today the village is just how he envisaged it with pretty mock Tudor houses and the fairy-tale ‘House in the Clouds’ - a unusual water tower with a boarded house on top, appearing to float up into the sky.Aldeburgh
Aldeburgh is a very pretty small town on the Suffolk coast. Its pastel-coloured 19th Century holiday villas line the promenade and to the east, the pebble beach with fisherman’s huts selling the daily catch.
Its historic buildings include a 16th-century 'moot hall' (a place to have meetings) and a Napoleonic-era Martello Tower.Coach seating
