TechCamp and Code Across America EduTech Hackathon

Here is the exact plan for the weekend and beyond. We officially start the hackathon on Saturday at 10:45 AM, but there are other happenings starting tonight at 6:30 that everyone is welcome to join, if you are interested.

Friday night reception—6:30PM–9PM:

We'll have on the wall a list of the School District's problem sets, a few other floaters, and the ability to write in new ones and "up-vote" existing ones.

8:30-9:30 Breakfast 1:00PM-2:30PM Lunch -All hacks all day- until "demos" at the end of the day intermixed with the rest of the group from 5PM to 6PM.

The "demos" will be short (~5 mins) and focused on a road map rather than functional mock ups. This is because we will be having subsequent events over the next two months to continue to build and finish the projects culminating in a Beta Launch Event during Philly Tech Week (details below). You're welcome and encouraged to attend any and all of the following sessions.

Event Description

With the recent announcement of the School District of Philadelphia (http://philasd.org)’s new open data portal (http://webgui.phila.k12.pa.us/offices/a/accountability/open-data-initiative), Code for America (http://codeforamerica.org) and Jarvus Innovations (http://jarv.us) are teaming up with TechCamp Philadelphia: Education on Sat. Feb. 23 and Sun. Feb 24 to organize a partner hackathon that will take place in the same building!

We're currently brainstorming ways that will bring these audiences — educators, technologists and hackers — as close as possible to one another to create projects that impact this city’s education community.

TechCamp Philadelphia will bring together more than 70 educators and technologists to dive deep into the problems facing education and their potential solutions. We’ll be able to borrow knowledge and interact directly with those that need the most help.

This event is hosted in University City at the new URBN Center (3501 Market Street), a state-of-the-art design and arts center and new home to Drexel’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.

This event lines up with Code Across America. From February 24 through March 4, 2013 passionate citizens around the country will come together to “Code Across America (http://brigade.codeforamerica.org/pages/codeacross)” — to make their cities even better.

TechCamp is organized by Technically Philly in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia and the federal State Department. TechCamp is a program as part of Secretary Clinton’s Civil Society (CS) 2.0 initiative.

We’re also working across all the partners to develop opportunities related to hacking education that will coordinate with the third annual Philly Tech Week 2013 presented by AT&T in April.
