Code for Philly: Workshop Night

Details

Come hang out at our Code for Philly Workshop night! The first Tuesday of the month experienced professionals lead sessions on various concepts of their choosing. Topics can range from more technical topics like programming languages to non-technical skills like project management or content strategy.

Workshop Sessions give our experienced designers, developers or other tech-skilled members an opportunity to share their expertise in technologies and/or best practices that they have employed in their professional experience. They can also involve concepts that members have found helpful in achieving success in their own projects.

This workshop is generously supported by GitHub! Give them a thanks on Twitter @github and a high-five irl at the workshop.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

• What do I need to know before showing up?

You must absolutely have a computer! Code for Philly does not provide computers, and you will need one to follow along with the session. Workshops last about 30-45 minutes with a working portion--that’s the “learning-by-doing” part.

RSVP to let session leaders know how many people to expect. Doors open at 6pm for people to arrive and get set up with sessions at 7pm.

Please be respectful of session leader’s time and be prompt. These are professionals donating their time, and the session will not stop or start over for you to catch up. Presentations will be made available at the discretion of the session leader.

• Who is this event for?

This event is for motivated, self-directed learners looking to build up their knowledge and get involved in Code for Philly while finding a project to work on. Workshop sessions are good for people with some working knowledge of technology. Though the sessions are “intro” level, they assume a certain level of technical literacy as a baseline. If you’re brand new to coding and looking for classes for beginners, there are many good resources that exist out there. Girl Develop It, NYCDA, and Code Academy are just a few.

• Do I need to be a coder?

No! We welcome civic hackers of all varieties. Workshops can span a wide range of topics, so we suggest looking at the speaker details to get a better sense of the information that will be covered.

As with all our events, we require attendees to follow our Code of Conduct (https://codeforphilly.org/pages/code_of_conduct/).
