About us
### The Founders Collective NZ — Build Together. Grow Together.
Many of us have ideas, skills, experience and ambition, but building something meaningful alone can be difficult.
Sometimes the limitation is money. Sometimes it's time, skills, connections, experience, or simply not having the right people around you who share the same interests and mindset.
This group starts with a very simple idea:
Come together first. Get to know each other. Build trust. Then see what becomes possible.
### No business plan required
Nobody is expected to walk into the first Meetup with a polished business plan, investment proposal or million-dollar idea.
In fact, that's not the purpose of the initial Meetups.
The first stage is simply about socialising, talking, sharing experiences and understanding each other.
Who are you?
What are you interested in?
What have you done before?
What would you like to explore someday?
What are you good at?
And, most importantly, what kind of person are you to work with?
Because before people can build businesses together, they need to learn how to build partnerships together.
### Relationships before transactions
Partnerships aren't created just because two people like the same business idea.
They require trust, communication, openness, reliability, compromise and respect for what each person brings to the table.
So initially, I'd like this group to focus on developing those relationships and partnership-building skills.
Meet regularly. Have a coffee or a drink. Talk about ideas. Discuss businesses and industries. Share experiences. Help each other solve problems. Introduce people where appropriate. Maybe even work on small things together.
Over time, we naturally start understanding:
Who do I trust?
Who do I work well with?
Who thinks differently from me?
Whose strengths complement mine?
Who actually follows through on what they say?
That's when something interesting can begin to happen.
### Where could it eventually lead?
There is deliberately no predetermined outcome.
Perhaps two members eventually start a small business together.
Maybe several people jointly pursue an opportunity that would have required too much capital for one person.
Maybe a technical person meets someone strong in sales.
Maybe someone with an idea finds someone with the experience to execute it.
Maybe members invest together, acquire something together, create a service together, or simply become valuable long-term business connections.
Or maybe nothing commercial happens immediately — and that's completely fine.
The relationship itself comes first.
### Who is this group for?
This community is specifically for open-minded people who genuinely believe in collaboration and partnership.
If your philosophy is "I want to do everything myself, own everything myself and I'm not interested in partnerships", there is nothing wrong with that — but this probably isn't the right group for you.
This is for people comfortable thinking:
"I may not be able to do everything alone, but perhaps I don't have to."
You don't need to bring everything to the table.
Someone might eventually bring an idea.
Someone might bring technology or specialist skills.
Someone might understand sales.
Someone might have industry relationships.
Someone might contribute capital.
Someone might simply have the time and determination to execute.
What matters initially is bringing an open mind, a collaborative attitude and a willingness to know and support other people.
Let's start by building the wolfpack.
The businesses, investments, partnerships and opportunities — if they happen — can come later.
Socialise → Build relationships → Build trust → Explore ideas → Find the right people → Create opportunities together.
People first. Partnerships next. Possibilities thereafter.
