Colorado Outdoors - Camping & Outdoor Activities

It’s all about having fun, getting outdoors, and getting away from routine life for a day, a weekend, weekdays, or even longer trips!

We live in an incredible part of the country, with Colorado’s mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, trails, and open spaces practically in our backyard.

Colorado Outdoors - Camping & Outdoor Activities is about bringing together people who enjoy camping, exploring, relaxing outside, meeting new people, and discovering places we might never find on our own.

Our trips, activities, and events come from both our members and organizers. Everyone is encouraged to suggest ideas for our next camping trip, hike, road trip, outdoor activity, or adventure.

Most of our events are in Colorado, but trips outside Colorado are absolutely welcome too.

## 🌲 Member-Only Camping Locations

One of the things that makes this group special is that our organizers and members have discovered some great camping locations that we intentionally do not publish publicly.

Some of these are dispersed camping areas, hidden group-friendly locations, or private camping opportunities that have been shared with us by other members and organizers.

For many camping events, we will provide the general area publicly, but exact GPS coordinates and detailed campsite information may only be provided to members who RSVP YES.

Please respect these locations and do not repost, forward, or publicly share coordinates once they are provided.

Good camping spots are becoming harder to find, and we want to enjoy them responsibly without contributing to overcrowding or damage.

## 💵 Annual Membership

Colorado Outdoors is a member-supported Meetup group.

There is a $5 annual membership fee to participate in the group. This does include a Colorado Sticker Collectors pack exclusive to this group.

The membership fee helps offset the cost of maintaining the Meetup group and organizing our outdoor community.

Your membership provides access to:

• Colorado Outdoors events and activities
• Member-only camping opportunities
• Private and lesser-known camping locations
• Group camping trips
• Dispersed camping events
• Hiking, fishing, road trips, outdoor activities, and other adventures
• The opportunity to meet and connect with other outdoor-minded members

Any funds collected beyond the basic cost of maintaining the Meetup group may be used to support future group activities, campsite reservations, deposits, supplies, or other Colorado Outdoors event expenses.

### Event Fees Are Separate

The annual membership fee does not include campground reservations, private property camping fees, permits, rentals, or other expenses associated with individual events.

Many dispersed camping events are free.

However, some trips may involve reserved campgrounds, private ranches, group campsites, state parks, or other locations where there is a cost.

When an event has an additional fee, that cost will always be clearly explained in the event description.

## 🏕️ We Camp in a Lot of Different Ways

Our camping trips include a wide variety of camping styles:

• Backpacking
• Tent camping
• Car camping
• Rooftop tents
• Overlanding
• Pop-up campers
• Campervans
• Travel trailers
• RVs
• Fifth wheels, when the location can accommodate them

Some events may take place at developed campgrounds with amenities such as potable water, picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, or other facilities.

Other trips may involve dispersed camping or boondocking with little or no infrastructure.

Every event is different, so please read the event description carefully before deciding whether the location works for your camping setup.

## ♻️ Leave No Trace

Whether we are camping on public land, private land, or in an established campground, we expect everyone participating in Colorado Outdoors events to respect the area.

PACK IT IN. PACK IT OUT.

Take your trash with you.
Clean up after your pets.
Respect wildlife.
Follow current fire restrictions.
Stay on appropriate roads and trails.
Leave campsites in the same condition you found them, or better.
Our goal is simple:
Leave the area looking like we were never there.

## 🐕 Kids & Pets Are Welcome

We are generally pet and child friendly.
Adults, kids, and pets are welcome at many of our trips and activities.

However, every event and location is different.
Please read each event description for specific information regarding children and pets.
Some trails, parks, campgrounds, and private properties may prohibit pets or require them to remain leashed or restrained at all times.

If you are unsure, contact the organizer of that particular event.

## 🥾 We’re Not Just About Camping

Camping may be a big part of the group, but Colorado Outdoors is about much more.

Events can include:

• Day hikes
• Fishing
• Rock climbing
• Mountain biking
• Off-roading
• Skiing and snow activities
• Road trips
• Backpacking
• Kayaking and water activities
• Outdoor social events
• Longer adventure trips
• And whatever else our members come up with

If it involves getting outside and enjoying Colorado or somewhere beyond Colorado, it probably belongs here.

## 🙋 Have an Event Idea?

We always welcome more events and more members willing to help organize them.

If you know a great camping location, hiking trail, fishing spot, scenic drive, outdoor event, or adventure you'd like to share with the group, let us know.

You can post your idea in the group or contact the leadership team.

If you want to organize and lead the event yourself, even better.

This group becomes more interesting when members contribute their own favorite places and ideas.

## 🚐 What Is Boondocking?

For purposes of this group, we generally use boondocking to mean camping outside of a traditional developed campground with no hookups and few or no amenities.

You may also hear this called:

• Dispersed camping
• Dry camping
• Primitive camping

Depending on the location, there may be:

• No electrical hookups
• No water
• No dumpsters
• No toilets or restroom facilities
• No picnic tables
• No designated campsite
• No campground host

That means you need to be prepared to be self-sufficient.

Bring your own water, power, trash bags, restroom solution, food, equipment, and everything else you need.
And when you leave:

Everything you brought in leaves with you.

Outdoor recreation, camping, hiking, off-roading, fishing, travel, and related activities involve inherent risks that may include, but are not limited to, changing weather, extreme temperatures, wildlife, uneven or hazardous terrain, falling trees or rocks, altitude, fire, water hazards, vehicle accidents, equipment failure, illness, injury, property damage, limited or unavailable cellular service, delayed emergency response, and other known or unforeseen hazards.

By joining this group, RSVPing to an event, or participating in any Colorado Outdoors activity, each participant acknowledges and accepts these risks and agrees that they are personally responsible for determining whether an event, location, road, trail, campsite, weather condition, or activity is appropriate for their own abilities, health, equipment, vehicle, children, pets, and circumstances.

Colorado Outdoors, its organizers, assistant organizers, event hosts, volunteers, and members are not professional guides, outfitters, medical providers, transportation providers, or emergency personnel unless specifically stated otherwise.

Participants are responsible for:

• Their own safety and personal decisions
• Proper clothing, camping gear, food, water, medications, and emergency supplies
• Determining whether their vehicle, trailer, RV, or other equipment is suitable for the roads and conditions
• Following all applicable laws, regulations, fire restrictions, land-use rules, campground rules, and property-owner requirements
• Supervising their children and pets
• Carrying appropriate insurance for themselves, their vehicles, pets, equipment, and personal property
• Understanding that cellular service and emergency assistance may be limited or unavailable

Event descriptions, directions, GPS coordinates, road-condition information, weather information, and other details are provided as a convenience and may change without notice.

Organizers cannot guarantee the accuracy, safety, accessibility, availability, or condition of any campsite, road, trail, property, or activity.

Private property, campgrounds, public lands, Hipcamp properties, state parks, federal lands, and other locations are operated or controlled by third parties.

Colorado Outdoors does not control these properties and is not responsible
for the actions, policies, facilities, conditions, or services of those third parties.

Event plans may be changed, postponed, relocated, or canceled because of weather, fire restrictions, road conditions, property availability, safety concerns, or other circumstances.

Any membership dues or event fees help cover group operating expenses, reservations, permits, supplies, or other event-related costs. Payment of
membership dues or an event fee does not create a professional guide-client relationship or guarantee that an event will occur exactly as described.

By participating, you accept personal responsibility for your own safety and voluntarily assume the risks associated with outdoor recreation and group activities.

If you are not comfortable accepting those risks, please do not participate in the event.
