Details

Yes... you read that right. 5:30am.

I'm planning on driving up the trail to tree-line or a bit past and then climbing the Antero 14er. To technically bag it, I need to start at tree line or at least gain 3,000 feet, although the trail is passable for off-roading up to 13,800 and within a half mile of the summit. Anyone is welcome to join. Either climb with me or throw snacks and water as you drive in front of me to 13,800. You can return at your leisure while I'm still hoofing it up and still have most of the day for other activities!

We will meet at the South parking lot for Mt Princeton Hot Springs / Princeton Market to air down and head to the trailhead which is at Chalk Creek Drive and 277.

The Mount Antero Trail follows an old mining road as it climbs out of the Chalk Creek Valley and up to the head of Baldwin Gulch before splitting off and ascending Mount Antero. The trail is fairly easy until the Baldwin Creek crossing, after the crossing the trail will increase in difficulty as it crosses several rock fields and drainages that can wash across the road. The trail has two steep switchback sections, 9 switchbacks on the lower section and 4 switchbacks on the upper section. Passing on the switchback sections is difficult so care should be taken to scout ahead watching for oncoming vehicles. The trail tops out at an elevation of 13,800' with the summit of Mount Antero only another 500' from the parking lot. Stock high-clearance 4x4s can complete this trail, off-road driving experience recommended.
