This trip includes two famous regions of Northern Greece: the pinnacles of Meteora topped with ancient monasteries and the magic Olympos mountain, the mountain of the Ancient Greek gods with the highest summits of Greece reaching almost 3000m!
The first days of this tour you arrive in Thessaloniki and travel on comfortable coach to the typical countryside town Chalkidona. Time permitted we’ll visit the great Ancient site of Pella this day or tomorrow morning.
We heading further west where the peculiar Meteora rocks come in sight! Walking around here is one of the greatest travel experiences in Europe. The monasteries appear to be suspended in the air atop of ancient rock pinnacles that have weathered away over time.
The last days involve a 3-day hike to the summits of the Olympos mountain range. From the village Litochoro we will travel per taxi to Prionia where our hike follows the Enipeas gorge. Through thick forest of pine, eventually the alpine zone is reached where the mountain huts are located. Goal is to reach the Skolio summit at 2.911m. The descent is via the same route until we reach Prionia and take taxi’s to Litochoro.
We close this trip with a 2 nights stay in Thessaloniki, to allow us time to reflect on our ascent and enjoy the beautiful Ano Poli in Thessaloniki and the great restaurants
