Join us for a terrific new release and top-reviewed biographical drama, MANK! The follows screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he battles with director Orson Welles over screenplay credit for Citizen Kane. Mank is directed by David Fincher and stars Gary Oldman, Lily Collins and Amanda Seyfried. Here are details, a trailer and plan for this event:

DESCRIPTION: 1930’s Hollywood is re-evaluated through the eyes of scathing wit and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he races to finish "Citizen Kane." The film follows his tumultuous relationship with Orson Wells leading up to the film's release. Mank is directed by David Fincher (The Social Network, Gone Girl, Seven) and stars Gary Oldman, Lily Collins, Amanda Seyfried, Tuppence Middleton and Charles Dance.

BUZZ: The film is earning a stellar 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, which says, “sharply written and brilliantly performed, Mank peers behind the scenes of Citizen Kate to tell and old Hollywood story that could end up being a classic in its own right!” Pete Hammond of Deadline says, "it would be hard to imagine at this point any other film generating more heat" for the Oscars than MANK!

PLAN: If you haven’t joined us for one of these Netflix TeleParty events, some advance setup is required. Be sure to check the meetup announcement for instructions before the event. On the day of the event, check the Comments Section of this event starting around 6:30pm for this week’s link. Then, log into the Netflix Party between 6:30 and 6:50pm! We’ll plan to start the film at 7:00pm. Note: Netflix account and laptop, desktop or Chromebook required.

INSTRUCTIONS:

BEFORE THE EVENT: Make sure you have a NETFLIX account and know your User ID/Password. You'll also need to download Google Chrome and the Google Chrome extension called “Netflix TeleParty.” You’ll want to do this well ahead of the event. Instructions & links for each are below. Also, please note that you will need a Laptop, Desktop or actual Chromebook for this to work. It will not work on a cellphone, iPad, etc.

  • DOWNLOAD GOOGLE CHROME: Click the following link and follow instructions: https://www.google.com/chrome/

  • DOWNLOAD THE GOOGLE EXTENSION FOR NETFLIX TELEPARTY:

  1. Visit netflixparty.com on your Google Chrome browser.
  2. Click Get TeleParty for free.
  3. You'll be redirected to the Google Chrome web store page to download the extension. Click Add to Chrome.
  4. A pop-up box will open. Select Add Extension. You'll now see a grey TP icon in your browser toolbar.

DAY OF THE EVENT:

  1. Be sure you are on a laptop, desktop or Chromebook. This will not work on a cell phone, iPad, etc.
  2. Open Google Chrome.
  3. In one tab, go to Netflix.com and sign in.
  4. In a second tab, open up the Movie Group page and sign in. Each event has a new link. I will post the link in the comments about 15-20 minutes before the event starts. Once you see it, copy/paste that link into a new tab. You can also click on it, but it works better if you copy/paste it.
  5. Click on the Red TP Logo in the upper right corner.
  6. Note: Do not click “Start the party.” Just click into the Chat on the right. You’ll see a paused screen until I start the party at the top of the hour.
  7. Additional Tip: You can customize your avatar and name by clicking on your avatar/icon on the top right. Click on it to add your name. Then click the little avatar button again and you can change it to something else.
