Join us as we get to get together to see a leading Oscar contender and the winner of the Toronto Film Festival, HAMNET! DESCRIPTION: HAMNET follows the relationship between William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes, and the story of that inspired the creation of Shakespeare's timeless masterpiece, Hamlet. The film is directed by Chloe Zhao who previously won the top prize at TIFF for NOMADLAND, which later went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars! It is based on the 2020 novel by Maggie O’Farrell and stars Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Emily Watson, Joe Alwyn and Noah Jupe.
BUZZ & ACCLAIM: Already high atop our watchlist, Hamet took the top prize at Toronto, along with awards at numerous other festivals including the Middleburg, Mill Valley and San Diego Film Festivals! The film is earning an excellent 86% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which says: "Breaking hearts and mending them in one fell swoop, Hamnet speculates on the inspiration behind Shakespeare's masterpiece with palpable emotional force thanks to Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal's astonishing performances.” David Ehrlich of IndieWire affirms that with Hamnet, "it would be hard to imagine a more fitting tribute to Shakespeare's most widely interpreted play." And ScreenRant declares, “With an aching heart, lush visuals and magnetic acting, Hamnet is undoubtedly one of the best movies of the year and will continue to resonate with audiences for years to come.”
