Choose Your Movie: JIMMY vs GODZILLA MINUS ZERO at Cinemark Stoneridge!

Join us as we get together for a CMG Choose Your Movie event and one of our toughest choices yet! Option 1 is JIMMY, a biographical drama following the life of beloved actor Jimmy Stewart. It follows his life from winning the Oscar for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story, to enlisting and becoming a combat pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force, and through his return home in the role of George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life. Option 2 is GODZILLA MINUS ZERO, a follow-up to the outstanding (and Oscar-winning) Godzilla Minus One (2023). The film picks up in 1949 postwar Japan as it struggles to rebuild while facing a new threat from King Ghidorah. Here are descriptions, trailers and our plan for this event:

JIMMY: The film tells the untold true story of America’s most-beloved actor and the iconic role that saved him. It focuses on the most transformative season in Jimmy Stewart’s life—from winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story to enlisting and becoming a combat pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. Stewart flew twenty missions over Europe, rising to the rank of colonel by the end of the war, only to return home broken and disheartened. Then George Bailey and It’s a Wonderful Life came calling. The film is directed by Aaron Burns and stars KJ Apa in the title role, alongside Jason Alexander, Max Casella, Sarah Drew, Jen Lilley and Christopher McDonald. GODZILLA MINUS ZERO: Set in 1949, the Shikishima family confronts a fresh catastrophe two years after surviving their previous ordeal with the legendary monster. Like its predecessor, the film is a character-driven drama, grounded in deep human emotion, all while providing all the monster smashing spectacle of the traditional Godzilla movies! The film is written/directed/visual effects by Takashi Yamazaki. It stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando, and Miou Tanaka all returning to reprise their roles from Minus One, along with Min Tanaka, Masami Nagasawa and Jun Kunimura. BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film premiered to stellar reviews at the Japanese International and New York Film Festivals. With a near perfect 95% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, critics say: “Towering side-by-side with its predecessor, every bit its equal, Godzilla Minus Zero is simply incredible blockbuster filmmaking.” Others declare, “With devastating human drama and earth-shaking kaiju action, Godzilla Minus Zero ups the ante in every way from its predecessor – and is easily one of the best films of the year.” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Xfz5IMGDs
