Special Pre-Thanksgiving Hiking Event: Copper Mine Trail Loop
Details
Our good friend Laurie G has some really nice friends who do this hike every year the Saturday before Thanksgiving for bird watching. Everyone brings something to eat and drink so please bring something for a group of people if you join this event.
Hiking the Copper Mine trail starting from Old Mine Road
This hike will start at the trail head on Old Mine road, starting on the Copper mine trail (Red blaze) travel up hill for about 2.25 miles and 575 foot of elevation change to join up with the Appalachian trail. Turning right (South) on the AT (White blaze 2x6) we continue up hill for about another mile (mile 3.25) to our highest elevation of about 1500 feet (starting elevation about 375) on Raccoon Ridge, continuing on the AT till the Kaiser trail joins on the right(mile 4.25), turn right on the Kaiser (Blue blaze) trail and head down hill about 1.6 miles (mile 5.85) to the second trail junction turn right onto a connector trail back to the parking lot for a total mileage of about 6.5.
The terrain is fairly steep and rocky as we travel alongside the brook on the first couple miles. T Poles are helpful for the descent. Please dress in layers with good hiking shoes and have enough food and water for the duration of the hike.
