About us
Offering community singing gatherings, song circles, and workshops for joy, connection and creative expression, from Parksville to Nanaimo. Hosting visiting songleaders like Coco Love Alcorn, Sarina Partridge and more. These community singing events are open to all voices.
Sylvia is part of the Ubuntu Choirs Network, which believes that singing is a universal human birthright and that we can change the world by singing together. After a cancer diagnosis, Sylvia quit her government job to pursue her passion for harmony singing. In 2023 she took the Community Choir Leadership Training founded by Siobhan Robinsong and Denis Donnely of Victoria's infamous Gettin' Higher Choir, and found her tribe of community songleaders from across North America (The Ubuntu Choirs Network), sharing songs of peace, hope, and unity. Now it's her mission to bring community singing back into our local culture, and foster joy and connection through song.
Sylvia is the founder of Humble Harmony, a non-performing, immersive community singing group, focused on interconnectivity and vocal harmony. Singing inspiring, uplifting and healing songs, world music, sea shanties, and songs of peace and hope, the group learns by ear in the oral tradition, and welcomes all voices regardless of background.
Community Singing events are posted in this meetup group as well as on Sylvia's website, www.sylviahumble.ca/events

Luke Wallace Concert & Singing Workshop
St. Andrews United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam Street, Nanaimo, BC, CAI’m excited to be presenting Luke Wallace in collaboration with St. Andrews United Church, for an evening concert on April 17 (I’ll be the opening act, with some harmonizing friends), and a singing workshop on April 18.
Tickets are on sale now through the Port Theatre box office (Concert $35/ $22 ~ Workshop $28/ $18.50 ~ lower prices are for youth/low income, as Luke values accessibility: “we are building a movement here!”. Here’s the link for concert tickets! There you will see an option to add on the workshop. Or use this ticket link for workshop only
I met Luke last summer at SongRoots camp on Gambier Island where he was an instructor. I was struck by his magical way of leading a large group of singers in harmony, and his irresistible, joyful, anthemic songs of hope, love, and peace. So, I asked him to come to Nanaimo and collaborate with me in a community singing workshop… and here we are! The workshop starts at 12:30 pm Saturday April 18, at St. Andrews United Church hall (no experience or sheet music required) space is limited; please register early.
On the Friday night before, Luke’s concert will be in the big sanctuary at St. Andrews (best music venue in town!) and I get to play an opening set. I’ll be singing a couple of my originals, and songs by Coco Love Alcorn and Sarina Partridge, with harmonies by April Laurie and Jude Wong. Don’t be surprised if both Luke and I get you singing!
“Luke is like a modern Pete Seeger. From the moment he hits the stage, he has the audience singing about positive change. We desperately need that and we need him on stages all across our Country right now! He doesn’t back down but he doesn’t alienate people either. He’s a perfect voice for right now.” - Doug Cox
