About us
Was your favorite part of school when you went on field trips? Did you enjoy history classes but hated quizzes and tests? Are you new to Connecticut or have lived here all your life and want to discover more about this state?
Then this group is for you! Our goal is to get together with other life-long learners to explore all that this state has to offer. Together we'll learn about the people, places and stories that make up the history of Connecticut. This is an informal, casual group that thinks learning can be fun!
Join us as we visit museums, unique sites, old cemeteries, historic homes and other Connecticut landmarks.
There are so many people who complain about everything bad in this state. This group is an attempt to attract optimistic, curious people who can appreciate all that we have in our own backyards!

Old Tolland County Jail and Museum
Old Tolland County Jail and Museum, 52 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT, USThe Town of Tolland was settled before 1715, and in 1785 Tolland County was organized by the Connecticut General Assembly, with Tolland designated as the county seat. At that time, a courthouse and a jail were constructed.
The present jail was in use from 1856 to 1968. It served as the county jail for criminals who were convicted of a crime or were awaiting trial at the courthouse across the street. The jail also had a hotel in front until a fire burned it down in 1893.
The building is now operated as a museum by the Tolland Historical Society. Its exhibits include thousands of items used in Tolland homes, farms, and businesses. The goal is to tell the story of Tolland and Tolland County in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Join us for a unique guided tour of the jail and a self-guided tour of the museum.
