"At Your Convenience" — A Cross-Cultural Friction Lab for Critical Inquiry

Have you ever returned from living abroad and suddenly noticed the invisible mechanics of your hometown? The small friction points you used to tune out, or the seamless systems you didn't realize you relied on?
That shift in perspective is where we start.

While convenience is how a system is engineered to function, privilege determines who it was actually designed for. At Your Convenience is a monthly, 2.5-hour discussion lab designed to explore how urban environments, spatial design, and social structures actively shape our easy conveniences, habits and identities.
We are moving past polite, surface-level networking. Intellectual friction is the point—come to question, unlearn, and relearn, not to reach a quick consensus.

How We Operate:

  • Go Beyond Small Talk: Prioritize depth, structured cross-examination, and active listening over polite small talk.
  • Embrace Friction: Examine how various systems quietly recondition our habits and challenge the path of least resistance.
  • Bridge Cultural Baselines: Compare how different global systems condition our habits and challenge what we take for granted as "normal."
  • Come as You Are: No prior reading or academic background required—just a willingness to sit with a complex question longer than usual.

Who it’s for: Everyone! A cross-cultural mix of locals, expats, returnees, global residents willing to interrupt their comfort zones. Just bring your curiosity and stories.

Format, Language: Sessions are conducted in English. Our physical space will shift each month to match our topic, moving fluidly through Tokyo’s community centers, public parks, local cafes, libraries, and impact hubs.

How to Join: To maintain an intentional, balanced mix of perspectives for each session, space is limited and accessible via a short pre-registration form.
