We’re creating a space where people with experiences like these can connect:
1. You went to an international school in Japan
2. You speak both English and Japanese at a native level (e.g., JLPT N1, bilingual)
3. Person who is bored of joining language exchange meetup or other English conversation meeting where end up with only (1) self introduction, (2) travel experience (e.g. where is the best country?), and/or (3) innocuous small talk.
4. Person who wants to overcome (1) shyness and (2) introvert personality through English conversation.
5. Person who is struggling with finding place to meet someone who can speak English.
6. Person who can speak English fluently, however, feeling lonely and experiencing difficulty in meeting someone who can speak English fluently.
7. (1) Returnee from country(ies) outside Japan or (2) person who lived, worked and/or studied in country(ies) outside Japan came back to Japan, however, experiencing difficulty in finding place where you feel comfortable or sense of belonging, and experiencing difficulty in adapting to Japanese society.
8. Person who can speak English, however, experiencing difficulty and being exhausted (physically and mentally) in working at foreign-affiliated or multinational company.
9. Person who can speak English fluently, however, no opportunity or doesn't have many chances to speak English.

What inspired this Meetup
Hi! I’m the organizer. I spent about six years in Irvine, California during elementary and middle school, and later worked for years in the legal and intellectual property department at both Japanese and Foreign-affiliated entities using English every day—especially for writing and reading. I’ve also been lucky enough to travel to over 20 countries (just to name a few: Hong Kong 60 times, Singapore 22, Sydney 6, Helsinki 3, Melbourne 3, Auckland 2… yes, I really love travel!).

Even though I’ve worked hard to keep up my English, I just don’t get many chances lately to actually speak or share my overseas experiences. Maybe some of you are in the same boat—especially if you work at a Japanese company where few people have international experience. It’s easy to feel like your English (and all those stories) just don’t get used.

So I decided to start a casual meetup where people with backgrounds like 1–9 above can hang out and chat in English. I’ll prep some discussion topics to help keep things flowing, but really, the goal is to create a relaxed, comfy space where everyone can share their thoughts and stories—not just do the usual intros and stop there.

BTW, this meetup is not into high-leveled debating and looks like only high-skilled person get to join, here is where:
1. to meet people having the above 1 through 9 experience(s) in a safe environment (this is what I expect the most!! I'm happy that you meet such people every time and become friend!!)
2. to have nice English discussion time over coffee, tea or other beverages
3. to practice English conversation with me and other participants

Meetup Details
(1) RSVP is required — thanks for understanding!
(2) Day & Time: Saturday and/or Sunday morning at 11:00am to 12:30pm
(3) Location: A café near Ōtemachi Station, Tokyo
(4) Group Size: 6–7 people (maximum 8 people)
(5) Cost: JPY 500 per person (Please order at least one item at the café)

A few quick notes before you join
●No pick-up attempts, MLMs, investment talks, religion or politics. Please also refrain from promoting other events or groups.
●This meetup will be held entirely in English. It’s not a language exchange with separate English and Japanese sessions—just a chance to speak naturally in English.

3. Language Exchange型の集まりにて英語での(1)自己紹介、(2)旅行経験談(例：どこの国が一番良かったか？)、及び／又は(3)世間話だけで終わる集まりに飽きた人
4. 英会話を通じて(1)shyで、(2)受け身の性格を変えたい人、shyで、受け身の性格を克服したい人
5. 英語を話せる人と知り合える場が見つからなくて悩んでる人
6. 英語を話せるけど親友ができなくてなぜか孤独と感じてる人
7. (1)帰国子女、又は(2)外国在住経験者、外国駐在(勤務)経験者、外国留学経験者が日本に帰ってきて日本社会に適合しにくく、居心地の良い場所や自分の居場所が見つからなくて悩んでる人
8. 英語が話せるけど、外資系企業や多国籍企業での勤務に(心身共に)疲れてる人
9. 英語を話せるけど話す場や機会がない、または少ない人

Meetup立ち上げの背景
Organizerの私は、小学校・中学校の頃アメリカ・カリフォルニア州アーバイン市に約6年間住んでいたことがあり、日系企業と外資系企業の法務／知的財産の部署で何年も英作文力、英会話力や英語読解力を使って働いてきました。20か国以上の国に渡航した経験もあります(例：香港60回、シンガポール22回、シドニー6回、ヘルシンキ3回、メルボルン3回、オークランド(ニュージーランド)2回など)。

何年も英語力を維持するために頑張ってきたものの、今は英語を話す機会や海外経験を話す機会がない状況です。私が何年も直面してきたことと似たようなことを感じている方もいるのではないでしょうか？日系企業に勤め、社内に海外経験がある方も少ないために、英語力(英会話力を含む)を使う機会やご自身の経験を話す(共有する)機会がない…という方々も大勢いるかと思います。

このような背景から、1～9のような方々同士でご自身の意見・経験をシェアできるmeetupを開こうと思い立ちました。このmeetupが心地よい雰囲気になるようにいつでも皆さんをサポートしつつ、ディスカッショントピックやネタを準備します。自己紹介だけで終わることなく、皆さんが自由にご自身の意見や経験をシェアできる場にできたらと考えております！

そうそう、ここはハイレベルなディベートをせず、高いスキルを持った方だけ参加できるかのように見えますが：
1. 以上の1～9の経験を持つ人たちと安全な環境(場)で知り合う場所(私はこれを一番期待してます!! 友達ができたらありがいたいです!!)
2. コーヒー、お茶や他のドリンクを飲みながら英語ディスカッションをする場所
3. 私や他の参加者と英会話を練習する場所
