Kick-Off Meeting!

Details

Welcome to the first Core C++ Users Group meeting!

The meetup will take place at the "Ma'oz Tsiyon Community and Culture Center" in Mevasseret-Ziyyon. Ample parking is available at the adjacent Harel high-school lot. Mevasseret should be easily accessible from both JLM and TLV and hopefully we'll see attendance from far and wide!

IMPORTANT: There has been a date change - the new date is Nov. 30, 2017.
Check your calendars. If you cannot make it, then please RSVP "No" since space is limited and the waiting list is filling up.

The crystallizing agenda:

18:30 Informal networking and mingling
19:00 Core C++ Users Group, Adi Shavit
19:30 The C++ Bestiary, Adi Shavit
20:00 Intro to Move Semantics, Michael Gopshtein
20:30 Break
20:40 Prize Raffle! Planning Open Panel for discussing future activities.

Core C++ / Adi Shavit - Organizer

C++ has a huge number of skilled practitioners in Israel. However, unlike other more dynamically typed languages like Python or JavaScript there are very few venues in Israel for learning and discussing C++. I've been looking for a native C++ focused community for a long time and have decided to give it a shot.By setting up in or around Mevasseret Zion my goal is to attract people from both TLV and JLM and everywhere in-between - something that will enrich and create an even more diverse community.

I'll give a brief introduction of the group, its goals and my plans for a great collaborative future!

I will also present the variety of C++ resources, news and updates.

The C++ Bestiary / Adi Shavit

C++ is blessed with a plethora of gotchas, traps, caveats, pitfalls and footguns. From Abominable Types to Zombies, many shady characters lurk within the C++ dungeons.
To celebrate our new C++ Users Group lets introduce our new members to some of these bountifully spawned beasts.

Adi Shavit is an experienced software architect and a computer vision, image processing, and machine learning expert with an emphasis on real-time applications. He specializes in building cross-platform, high-performance software combined with high production quality and maintainable codebases. He has built many products, apps, and services that leverage OpenCV. Adi has been an OpenCV user and contributor since it was in early beta back in 2000. Since then, he has been using it pretty much continuously to build systems and products ranging from embedded, vehicle, and mobile apps, through to desktops and large, distributed, cloud-based servers and services. Adi is also the designer of the OpenCV logo.

Intro to Move Semantics / Michael Gopshtein

Move semantics were an important addition to C++11, with a promise to optimize existing and future code bases. The talk will present the basics: how to implement move semantics for your class and how to use it correctly.
We will also touch a number of deeper subjects: universal references, perfect forwarding.

Michael Gopshtein has more than 15 years of programming experience, largely in high-performance applications such as network sniffers and computer vision. He holds a Master degree in CS from HUJI and is a huge C++ enthusiast. Most recently Michael is working on a C++ platform for augmented reality applications at Eyeway Vision.

Prize Raffle! Planning Open Panel

After the break we will raffle two valuable product licenses so generously donated by JetBrains and Parasoft!
Finally we will end with an open-panel to discuss future activities of the group.

We are looking for speakers of all walks of life.

You do not have to be an expert to speak. Talks include everything from beginners tutorials to expert-level usage.

Please get in touch with any suggestions and questions!!
