Graves of Leinster men
Details
Guess who is back. I was working a lot weekends and other commenits in my life.
The walk climbs Tountinna, the highest peak in the Arra Mountains, beginning near the ancient standing stones known as the Graves of the Leinster Men. The trail is usually done as a loop of roughly 9 km and takes about four hours at a relaxed pace. Most sources rate it moderate rather than difficult — the climb is steady, but never especially technical.
According to local legend, the site marks the burial place of warriors from Leinster who were killed during the time of Brian Boru. Archaeologically, the standing stones are probably much older — likely Bronze Age. Only one major stone remains upright today, but the atmosphere of the place still feels ancient and exposed.
