We are inspired by the book Small is Beautiful by E. F. Schumacher proposing small, human-scale, appropriate technologies. These ideas are even more relevant for today. The World Bank, for example, is urging developing countries to kickstart the creation of “small AI” models to reap the benefits of artificial intelligence. NVIDIA says Small Language Models are the Future of Agentic AI. Harvard restructures its archives from big servers to files searchable using DuckDB running inside a user's browser.
