About us

We’re the Cologne chapter of CorrelAid, a network of volunteer data enthusiasts using their passion for social good.

We team up with non-profit organizations on project-based collaborations – helping them make sense of their data, measure their impact, and tackle real-world challenges.

Here in Cologne, we connect data enthusiasts, non-profits, and civic initiatives in the Bonn/Cologne/Düsseldorf area to work on local projects. From exploring open data to supporting community organizations, our goal is to make a measurable difference together.

Everyone is welcome to join our sessions – whether you’re a beginner or an expert – and learn, share, and contribute along the way. If you care about making the world better with data – or just want to see what’s possible – join us!

Data4Good Stammtisch: Job Search in the Age of AI

Data4Good Stammtisch: Job Search in the Age of AI

Damla +PLUS, Frankfurter Straße 85-87, 51065, Cologne, DE

We are the Cologne chapter of CorrelAid, a network of volunteers using their expertise on data for social good.

At our recent Stammtisch events, one topic repeatedly sparked lively discussion: how AI is transforming the job market. From AI-generated applications and automated screening systems to changing skill requirements and entirely new career paths, many participants expressed a desire to explore this topic in greater depth. That's why we're dedicating our next "Stammtisch with a Focus" to Job Search in the Age of AI.
Whether you're currently looking for a new role, hiring talent, working with AI professionally, or simply trying to understand where the labor market is heading, this session is for you.
We'll kick things off with a few short discussion prompts and examples before moving into an open, participant-driven conversation around questions such as:

    • How is AI changing the way people search and apply for jobs?
    • Which AI tools are actually useful for applicants, and where are the limitations?
    • How are recruiters and organizations using AI in hiring?
    • What skills are becoming more important in an AI-driven labor market?
    • How can data professionals position themselves in a rapidly evolving landscape?
    • What does effective AI literacy look like today?
    • How can candidates stand out when everyone has access to the same AI tools?
    • Which trends are real, and which are hype?

As always, this is a discussion rather than a presentation. Bring your own experiences, challenges, success stories, questions, and resources. Whether you've used AI to optimize your CV, experienced AI-powered recruiting firsthand, or are wondering how AI might affect your career in the years ahead, we'd love to hear your perspective.
Join us for an evening of exchanging ideas, learning from each other, and making sense of one of the most significant shifts currently shaping the world of work.
We look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces at our next Stammtisch with a Focus!

For those who are new to CorrelAid: you are very welcome to join too! We can always chat one-on-one during a break or after the main event on all you'd like to know about CorrelAid and how to participate in our volunteer projects to build up your portfolio while helping others.

We are the Cologne chapter of CorrelAid, a network of volunteers using their expertise on data for social good.

This talk focuses on the practical and scientific challenges of detecting fine-scale urban vegetation from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery under noisy and imperfect real-world conditions.

Specifically the following assumptions will be discussed:

    • Assumption 1: AI can solve complex problems
    • Assumption 2: Deep learning math is complicated
    • Assumption 3: BIG data is needed
    • Assumption 4: Foundational models are generalizable
    • Assumption 5: AI makes Data Science superfluous

Here is a publication on the topic for those who would like to read ahead:

Our speaker Dorothea is a PhD trained Biochemist who worked in the intersect of Screening and Material Sciences with industry experience. She is a bit of a #Data4Good enthusiast and try to make time for it. Here is a perspective piece which came out from a project Dorothea lead:
