Sci-fi Book Club Meetup!
Details
Greetings, fellow sci-fi lovers! Our first meetup - and supplemental cinema outing - were raging successes this past month! It's been so much fun to meet fellow enthusiasts in Santa Cruz 👽🌠
📆Our next meetup will be:
Friday, June 19th @ 6:30pm
Abbott Square Back Patio
📚We'll be discussing the book Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz. We don't care if you read it, listen to the audiobook, etc. - but come ready to discuss this and any other sci-fi-related things our conversation may touch upon!
🤖🍜Automatic Noodle is a novella (174 pages) set in San Francisco; it's an Indie Next pick, Library Reads pick, and Best of the Year at Elle, Gizmodo, Reactor, Library Journal, and more.
Book description:
"You don’t have to eat food to know the way to a city’s heart is through its stomach. So when a group of deactivated robots come back online in an abandoned ghost kitchen, they decide to make their own way doing what they know: making food―the tastiest hand-pulled noodles around―for the humans of San Francisco, who are recovering from a devastating war.
But when their robot-run business starts causing a stir, a targeted wave of one-star reviews threatens to boil over into a crisis. To keep their doors open, they’ll have to call on their customers, their community, and each other―and find a way to survive and thrive in a world that wasn’t built for them."
🪧Find us on Abbott Square's back patio with a sign on our table matching the event flyer. Abbott Square has a variety of restaurants, bars, and cafes around the patio. Feel free to grab some food or drink from any of the establishments to enjoy while we hang out.
📈Since this club is new, I'm using Meetup's free plan, which only allows 10 attendees. If the spots start filling up, I'll pay for a bigger plan so more can RSVP on here.
See you soon for more galactic, geartastic explorations!! To infinity... 🛸👽🌠
