What we're about

Welcome & looking forward to getting to know you!

If you are young at heart and wise in the head, balanced, healthy minded individual, and you want to network and have some fun in the Philadelphia area, then you have come to the right place! This is not a singles group, anyone can join!

We have a lot of different types of events, and most of them are designed for our members to meet new friends, network, and enjoy much of what Philly has to offer. These events may vary from interesting cultural events or live music, to simply having fun & meeting new people at a Center City happy hour.

You get to choose which events you want to attend, but please RSVP whenever possible so we know to expect you even if you plan to attend events that do not have a set capacity limit.

As terrific as MeetUp is to meet new people, Facebook seems to be an easier way to stay in touch, so I've also set-up a Facebook group called "Philly Social Adventures" that is geared to Philly area MeetUp friends, here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/574330306077914/

Looking forward to meeting you!

David

Co-Organizer

PS. If you have some ideas you'd like to suggest as MeetUp events or if you would like to become one of our Assistant Organizers, please let me know by emailing me though the MeetUp system and include your contact information as well as the event information.

Chinese Dim Sun for Dinner at Nom Wah Tea Parlor - 218 N 13th Street

Nom Wah Philadelphia

$3.00

Our first Dining series event quickly filled up, so I will try to turn this into a weekly Event if possible. Thank you everyone for your support!

Our next location will be a terrific, but often overlooked dim sum style Chinese restaurant, Nom Wah Tea Parlor. Nom Wah is steeped in history as their original location in the heart of NYC's Chinatown opened in 1920. Nom Wah in Philly has recently re-opened after a long Covid shut-down, and is excited to have added a liquor license to their offerings of delicious traditional dim sum. We will be getting separate checks, and the prices are very affordable & as is the nature of dim sum, its easy to share with the people sitting with you if you'd like.

As Philly continues to open up, I'd like to continue this series of sit-down dinners at a variety of restaurants in Philadelphia. Some spots still have capacity issues, so this Dining series will likely be a smaller group with a set capacity. If interest exceeds capacity, please RSVP for the Waiting List and I will try to add as many additional tables as possible to be as inclusive as possible for us.

IMPORTANT: I will also be charging a $3 fee that should be paid in advance two days before this event to help me get an accurate count. I could say that the fee is going to MeetUp fees, yada yada yada, but honestly I want to charge a nominal, and non-refundable fee so that I know people are serious about their RSVPs. The restaurant & hospitality industry has suffered enough, I don't want us to be holding spots from other potential diners. My hope is that this nominal fee will help me know that everyone is taking their RSVP seriously.

Nom Wah Tea Parlor
Let's check out this hidden gem of a restaurant! Nom Wah is well known for their traditional dim sum and terrific tea selection. They are often busiest on weekends for dim sum/brunch time. However, now that they added a liquor license, it feels a bit more welcoming to go there for dinner. And of course with their fantastic tea selection, I hope it works well for those in the group seeking to join us but wanting a good alternative beverage.

Nom Wah management will also kindly allow us to have separate checks. This means that if you are enjoying yourself, you won't be rushed, but if you need to eat & run, that is also possible.

Here is the link to their website: https://nomwah.com/philadelphia/

We'll be starting with a 16 person capacity, and I will try to increase it if there is interest.

When RSVPing, please Venmo $3 to: @David-Meetup

I am really excited to be starting this new Dining series, but even more excited to be getting together with everyone again!

Online Board Games every Mondays & Thursdays at 7pm

Online event

Friends -- we meet every Monday & Thursday during the pandemic to play online board games, and use Discord to chat & socialize while we play!

We usually have about 15 to 20+ people attend, starting by gathering on Discord at 7pm. Discord chat link: link: https://discord.gg/nJdSyaeTzP
We play most games using boardgamearena.com, and we also play Catan using the Catan Universe app. There is always a group that will be playing Catan, and there is always at least one group playing various games using boardgamearena.com

BIG NEWS, ADDING MORE GAMES!
We have been getting a terrific response on these nights, and starting Feb 1st we'll be adding more gaming options for everyone to play. So in addition to Catan and gaming on boardgamearean.com, we'll be adding SPYFALL, CODENAMES, AMONG US, and more!!!

USE DISCORD TO CHAT
Zach has expanded our Discord Chat Rooms to be able to accommodate 15 people each, so large group & team games can be played. Here is the link: https://discord.gg/nJdSyaeTzP
Using Discord has been terrific so far, allowing us to live chat & socialize while we've been playing.

I will still likely be playing Catan, with Jon & others stepping up and helping host other games for the group using Board Game Arena.

Wednesday Happy Hour & Dinner at Lou Bird's (20th & Lombard)

Friends - join us on Wednesday as we continue In-Person events at Lou Bird's at 500 S 20th Street (corner of 20th & Lombard)! These Wednesday happy hours have been a terrific way to welcome new members plus allow long time members to re-unite with everyone socializing together.

Many Covid restrictions are being lifted, but some are still in place, so please err on the side of caution.

Happy Hour food & drinks will go until 7pm, but we generally stay later, so relax & socialize, and enjoy yourself!

Lou Bird's
They describe their restaurant as a neighborhood restaurant and bar which provides a casual elegance to Rittenhouse and Graduate hospital area in Philadelphia. Norris and Deb Jordan’s second location after the success of “The Happy Rooster”, Lou Bird’s is named after their daughter where family and friends are first. They specialize in creating local restaurants and bars that have a comfortable feel where the food is delicious, cocktails impressive, and you have fun! Along these lines, the Happy Hour food menu features eight eclectic items, and some sound like they'd be good to share as a group.

We are limiting this event to 60 people, and please honor your RSVP so you are not taking a spot from someone else wanting to join us.

Thanks, and can't wait to see everyone!
