Join the Build a Biodigester Competition kickoff event along with your new teammates to learn some key tips and tricks for building the best biodigester. You and your team could win $400!

With common supplies and equipment that you can find at your local hardware store, anyone can build their own biodigester to produce biogas for cooking and heating from organic waste! But what is the most efficient and cost effective design that will maximize output, conserve space and save time? That's what we hope YOU will discover with the Build a Biodigester Competition.

The competition will progress in three phases:

Phase 1: Design & Plan

Starting with the Kickoff Event, participants will form teams and will have THREE WEEKS to designing their biodigester and order materials if necessary.

Phase 2: Build

This phase will be a weekend-long "hackathon" style event (tentatively March 3-5) where all the teams will come together and build their biodigesters.

Phase 3: Assess

Judges will spend approximately 15 days assessing the biodigesters by digesting mixed food scraps and measuring the amount of biogas produced to determine a winner.

The winning team will receive a $400 cash prize!

The Kickoff Event will include a talk by Daniel Enking discussing the judging criteria, ideas for biodigester designs and materials considerations.
