Lab Skills 101: Microscopy!

Details
Is the microbial world just a big blur to you? Can't tell a dissection scope from a compound microscope? Always wanted to try oil immersion but afraid to ask? Come join Theresa Halula for an introduction to optical microscopy!
We will give an overview of microscope types, show you how to use them, go over the scopes we have available at CCL, and maybe diagnose some of the ones in need of repair. Feel free to bring in your own scope if you have one!
If all goes well, we will also take a tour of the super-fancy super-resolution (STED) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STED_microscopy) inverted fluorescence microscope (https://sites.google.com/site/biocuriousmicroscopewiki/) that the folks at BioCurious built out of parts from an Illumina DNA sequencer

Welcome to our new, weekly class series! Each Saturday, a member of CCL will host an hour-and-a-half long class on the topic of their choosing. Classes are open to other CCL members and the general public. A minimal fee to cover supplies and prep time may be requested, however no one will be turned away for lack of funds! Please RSVP ahead of time so teachers can plan accordingly.
If YOU want to host a talk, first check that no one has signed up for your date, then email info@counterculturelabs.org to sign up. Someone will put your name and talk on the calendar and email you back a confirmation.
Happy science-ing!
