Insights into Entity Component Systems

Details

In software development, composition is key — so we’re looking forward to presenting three local C++ entities at once: Helmut Hlavacs, Marlene Kasper, and Isabella Hölzl from the University of Vienna.

Inheriting a shared passion for Entity Component Systems (ECS), they will guide us through the essentials of this powerful data structure, heavily used in video games. Discover how this composition pattern works, dynamically clustering data tied to specific entities. And go even further as they explore architectural choices and optimization strategies tailored to different use cases.

They will show us

  • What Entity Component Systems are
  • How to optimize them
  • How LLMs can be used to create them
  • And finally VECS:
The open-source Vienna Entity Component System (+ a tool to visualize it’s content).

See you then!

⌚ Doors open at 5:30 PM and the main event starts promptly at 6:30 PM.
🙏 Please arrive early to ensure a timely start.

  • We appreciate any voluntary donations on site.
  • We plan to get food after the main event - either by relocating to the pizzeria, or by providing a simple buffet (depending on number of attendees)
