ReactJS and WordPress in production

About the talk

ReactJS is the new kid on the block and WordPress has stood the test of time. This talk will cover how easily you can introduce ReactJS within an existing WordPress site. We will talk about React tooling (Webpack and Babel) and how to setup a modern JS workflow for development. Last we will talk about how you can package your code for production using Preact.

Arrive from 6.30. The talk will start at 7.

About the speaker

Kurt Farao (Car Brochure@kingramsi) is a Fullstack JS developer at Liquid Thought. His current Front-end stack is React. He also dabbles in MongoDB and NodeJS from time to time.

When away from his keyboard, you'll find him battling his best time at your local racetrack.

About you

The talk is for anyone interested in ReactJS and how to get started.

Hi folks! We've got a license key for Jet Brains http://www.jetbrains.com/ to give away, courtesy of the fine folks of the WordPress Cape Town community. If you're keen yelp here and we'll pick a random person to send it to. \o/

Will the event be recorded? Wife's stuck in really bad traffic and it's looking like we won't make it in time.

Would hate to miss the info though...

@Steve I think I'm going to have to bail out. accident it seems in woodstock, and still have to get to claremont and then back to town...

Hopefully someone else has the idea of recording the event, otherwise will make do with the slides.

It was me, plus 1. So you can let the next 2 people in...

      Next time!

Great meetup! If anyone is interested, I used this tutorial to get started with webpack and react.

I forgot to mention you can use "React Create App" to do all the config for you. https://github.com/fac...

With this tool you don't have to setup your React workflow manually.

Hi there. Myself and a friend would like to come through tonight, do you have space for two people still?

    February 1

    • Steve B.

Hello! Sorry, but no :(. The venue is a tight fit for all of us: we are PACKED for the evening and can't take any more people! Hope to see you at the next one! :)

(erm, also: we do have 10 people on the waiting list, so they would get priority if we had more space :-/)

    Hello there!

If (you've RSVPed Yes and) you can't make it on Wednesday, *please update your RSVP to No*. This is important because it will let someone on the waiting list (of 22 people!) come in your place.

    Thank you! :)
