The Culture Club – A Nonfiction Book Club

Join us for The Culture Club's 8th meeting to discuss If We Burn by Vincent Bevins.
We'll explore the wave of mass protests during the 2010s ( between 2010 - 2020, "The Protest Decade" more people took to the streets in protest than at any other time in human history) and examine the question Bevins sets out to answer: Did mass protest backfire in the 2010s and if so, why?

Reading Pace: 11–12 pages a night, or roughly 80 pages a week, to finish comfortably before the meeting

Note: Completing the book is not required to attend the meeting. We welcome thoughtful discussion and diverse perspectives.

Books & Beer!! Join me for a discussion of Dangerous, Dirty, Violent, and Young: A Fugitive Family in the Revolutionary Underground

Described as reading a fast-paced thriller, the book invites us to explore the lived experience of a movement. Zayd Ayers Dohrn is the son of Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers, founders of the radical left group the Weather Underground. He spent his early years as a fugitive alongside his parents, while his mother sat on the FBI's Most Wanted list.
Drawing on exclusive interviews, declassified FBI files, letters, photos, and diaries, Dohrn takes us through a half-century of radical resistance from an intimate, up-close lens.

Reading Pace: About 16 pages a night, or roughly 112 pages a week, to finish comfortably before our next meeting

Completing the book is not required to attend our meetings or comfortably engage in discussion.
