About us
Welcome to Cultured Milwaukee and we are glad you are here! Although I write as the mere new steward of this group, it belongs to the members. Think of it as a cooperative.
We need people to participate, show up, and from time to time act as hosts. I don’t have a monopoly on fun ideas, especially with my limited mind, knowledge, and experience. Your assistance will benefit all our members.
You can expect events like dance socials, live music events, festivals and markets, Gallery Nights, movies old & new at Milwaukee’s landmark theaters, StorySlams, events at the UWM & the MPM planetariums, movies with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and so much more!
Our lovely, always enthusiastic, and talented founder Elizabeth, created this group to host events around the city that may be “out of the norm”. As far as I am concerned, she is the Organizer Emeritus and is on sabbatical for as long as she likes. She set the framework, and perhaps if these are the kinds of events you want to attend but you don’t have anyone to go with - You have found your people! Just like her, I am not a certified "unique event finder", however I love exploring everything that this great city has to offer! Welcome aboard.
Recently, I had a discussion with a member about the direction of the group. I will share with you my position:
"For all the scheduled events, my plan is to have a wide range of activities. Affordability is certainly key. That’s why the Coffee and Concert series will be a mainstay. Please keep in mind, this current administration has severely cut funding to arts organizations and for them to survive, the revenue has to come from somewhere. Without it, they would cease to exist.
The path for ahead Cultured Milwaukee may be steep, but we’ll make it! Thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are always welcome."
***Note: Updated 9/27/23 -- Meetup charges $200 per year to be an organizer. :-/ Members who attend the group's events regularly encouraged us to use the Pledge feature -- rather than requiring Cultured Milwaukee members to pay an annual fee membership fee. You can contribute directly: A donation, 100% goes to reimbursing me for the steep annual Organizer fee and ongoing expenses. Thank you for considering it.
Finally, the very important fine print: Treat each other, vendors, and those you come in contact with, with respect, courtesy, and integrity.
Good manners and proper etiquette require updating your RSVP. It is tremendously frustrating to make arrangements and save seats for members who are never going to show. "No shows" are the hardest part of being an organizer and I treat them accordingly. Thank you!
