Sponsored by Charlottesville NOW (the Charlottesville Chapter of the National Organization for Women). As part of the largest organization of feminist grassroots activists in the United States, Charlottesville NOW is dedicated to an intersectional multi-issue and multi-strategy approach to women’s rights. We take action to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of social, political and economic life.

Bad Faith Film Screening
Central Jefferson-Madison Regional Library, 201 E Market St, Charlottesville, VA, USAs the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary, Bad Faith exposes a secretive war being waged on our democracy. The compelling film reveals the rise of Christian Nationalism and its infiltration of cultural and civic institutions—family, religion, entertainment, media, education, business and government—to impose its authoritarian vision for the country.
Through meticulous reporting and thoughtful storytelling, directors Stephen Ujlaki and Chris Jones illuminate a movement whose impact extends far beyond politics. Renowned filmmaker Ken Burns has praised Bad Faith as “a great and powerful and timely film,” applauding its incisive exploration of “the cynical misuse of religion to advance aims diametrically the opposite of Christianity’s mission.”
The film’s excellence has also been recognized on the festival circuit, earning the Grand Prize for Best Feature Documentary (Rhode Island), the Justice Matters Award (Washington, D.C.), and the Best of Fest Audience Favorite (Palm Springs). Hailed by Variety as “one of the 10 best movies of 2024,” the widely acclaimed film has been updated, and the 2026 version will be screened at Tom Tom.
A discussion after the film will be led by a panel of religious and academic scholars: Brenda Brown-Grooms, Pastor at New Beginnings Christian Community Church; Melina Bell, Professor of Philosophy and Law at Washington and Lee University; and Brian N. Williams, Professor of Public Policy at the University of Virginia.
