Exploring the Dirichlet Convolution
Details
Hey everyone - as you may or may not know, Brandon is going to be moving out of the Bay Area around the end of May, so I will be organizing events for the next few months.
For our first event this month, we'll be having a flavorful discussion of the Dirichlet convolution led by Steven Grigsby, a friend of mine who used to run a math group out in Texas. We'll be tackling the concept of a peculiar group formed by some popular number theory functions with the Dirichlet convolution. (Whatever that means!) He wants to introduce and attempt to motivate this convoluted thing in as natural way as possible so that you can begin playing with this mathematical curiosity on your own. The discussion is aimed at both those who have never heard of the Dirichlet convolution before, and those familiar with it.
We should start around 7:00 PM - the introduction Steven will be providing will last about 45 minutes, and he'll be sticking around for a while afterward for a more open-ended discussion Hope to see you there!
