Do you have difficult memories in the context of religion? The memories could look like (but not limited to) being taught rigid doctrine that triggers a guilt response, or an emotionally upsetting situation one experienced at the religious institution, or parents’ religious values being forced down upon you as a child. These negative experiences you had within the religious context can continue to affect your life. Having heard how common this experience is, Max Bourgault, Psy. D., and Jiyoon created a 3-part Life After Religious Trauma workshop on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of October and November.
Each workshop would be structured as follows: check-in, brief meditation, educational content, group work, discussion, and Q&A.
We believe that knowledge, wisdom, and support from the leaders and the community that shares similar pain will help all of us heal and build an intentional life after religious trauma.
You can attend just one or two or all three, however it fits your life.
Facilitator bio
JiYoon Lee (she/her) serves many roles: most notably, she currently serves the Dallas Meditation Center community as the Center Director. To offer herself as a facilitator of healing, she is trained in Somatic Experiencing Therapy. Previously, she offered herself as a yoga teacher, translator, and creative writing instructor. She is grateful for her Mindful practices –yoga, meditation, and artistic practices– and the Sangha that guides her to deepen her understanding of the World.
While I remain licensed in Canada, I’ve chosen to step away from clinical practice to embrace a more holistic, psycho-spiritual approach to transformation. My current work weaves together psychological insight, spiritual depth, and practical tools to support whole-person growth.
