Uptown/Oak Lawn Hyperlocal Conversation
Details
UPTOWN/OAK LAWN | Tue Dec 8, 6:30 PM | [VENUE TBA]
Note the date: this month we are meeting on the second Tuesday, December 8, rather than our usual fourth Tuesday. The fourth Tuesday falls on December 22, three days before Christmas, so we moved up.
Please note: our dates for the coming months are still being finalized. Check back closer to the event for the confirmed date, time, and location.
This month’s topic: [TOPIC TO CONFIRM]
Our last gathering of the year. Meet your neighbors and explore ways to improve walkability across Uptown and Oak Lawn.
On the agenda:
- Where the Maple Avenue Safety Project stands heading into 2027
- [TOPIC TO CONFIRM]
- What Uptown and Oak Lawn neighbors want to take on next year, and who wants to help
- Open social time
Come even if this is your first one. Please RSVP so we know how many to expect.
What is a hyperlocal conversation?
A neighborhood-specific monthly gathering where neighbors explore ways to improve walkability where they live. Each meeting opens with 45 to 60 minutes of guided discussion, then open social time. Our vision is a conversation in and for every neighborhood in Dallas.
---
Maple Avenue between Oak Lawn and Mockingbird was identified by city officials as Dallas’ most dangerous street for pedestrians. A 2024 road-diet proposal included a reconfiguration of the roadway from four lanes to three lanes with bike lanes, new or enhanced pedestrian crossings, and sidewalk and traffic signal improvements.
At our next Oak Lawn Hyperlocal Conversation in October, we’re bringing neighbors along Maple Ave together to review the data on crash hotspots, transit, sidewalks, homes and businesses, revisit the proposed designs, examine evidence about bike lanes and business impacts, and discuss how we can support making our community safer for all.
