Know Your Value - Data Professionals

šØ Data & AI Professionals: Be Honest With Yourself
Let me ask you a hard question š
Is the work youāre doing creating recognition and useful change⦠or just GRIND?
Because:
Shipping dashboards nobody uses is GRIND
Training models that never reach production is GRIND
Constant firefighting to ākeep the lights onā is GRIND
Being ābusyā, āneededā, and āindispensableā ā without impact ā is still GRIND
š” Effort ā Value
š” Complexity ā Impact
š” Being trusted ā being promoted
Value only exists when something changes for someone else.
The uncomfortable truth about Data & AI careers
If you canāt clearly answer:
Who benefits from this work?
What actually changes because I did it?
How will anyone prove it worked?
⦠then your work is invisible, no matter how hard or clever it is.
Thatās how talented data professionals become:
ā Exhausted
ā Stuck
ā Indispensable but unrecognised
When the work becomes GRIND, you still have choices
You are not powerless.
There are only three rational responses when value disappears:
š Renegotiate
Clarify scope. Reset success metrics. Redefine what āgoodā looks like.
š§ Redesign
Change the workflow. Shift from analysis to deployment. Reduce rework and BNVA.
š¦ Relocate
Move teams. Move domains. Move roles. (Yes, sometimes even move organisations.)
What doesnāt work?
ā Hoping it magically gets better
ā Waiting for a title to rescue you
ā Just working harder
Tomorrowās question for Data & AI Professionals
Before you start your next task, ask:
Is this creating useful change⦠or just keeping me busy?
If you canāt articulate the value out loud, it probably doesnāt exist.
šÆ Know Your Value is not a slogan.
Itās a professional survival skill.
š 16 April we are running a webinar for Data & AI Professionals on: How to recognise GRIND early ā and use the 3Rās to intentionally change your trajectory.
If this made you uncomfortable, good.
That discomfort is data.
